GMC Diminished Value Claim in Mobile, Alabama

St. Lucie Automobile and Diminished Value Appraiser

Each week we report on the most interesting and informative articles concerning auto diminished value claims. Regarding our diminished value appraisal of a GMC Yukon XL SLT with 35,800 miles that was involved in a Rear End Collision that caused $1,903.84 in damage. The truck was not disabled/towed and had no structural damage or air bag deployment. The claimant made a third-party inherent auto diminished value claim for the vehicle’s loss in value. Once a car is repaired after a collision, it is worth less, often much less depending on the severity of the damage. Regardless of how well the repairer did his job, nobody will pay as much for a previously wrecked car as they would for an identical one that was never in an accident. Presenting a diminished value claim and following it through to a satisfactory conclusion is a daunting task for the average person. Obtaining a comprehensive Diminished Value Report is key.

We learned from these examples from sales managers at GMC dealerships in Alabama  – normally with mild damage like this on a newer car you may see a 10-15% loss in value. Also that being that it is somewhat new and has relatively low miles there will be a loss because of the Carfax and also, normally when a vehicle is in a wreck it is going to be in the area of $5,000.00 off the value even if it was a shopping cart bump.

The opinions of unbiased experts form the basis for the most comprehensive Auto Diminished Value Appraisal available. We obtain six of them which absolutely puts the diminished value figure prepared by The St. Lucie Appraisal Company in the ballpark. This is what the car owner will experience in the real world.

A black GMC Yukon. A Diminished Value Appraiser in Alabama call 772-359-4300.Dealers providing opinions regarding diminished value were given information specific to this vehicle including year, make, model, mileage, color, options, any other pertinent equipment, date of loss as well as the nature of the repaired damages and the manner in which the vehicle was repaired. Dealer opinions are based on personal knowledge and access to auction results. Dealers were advised that this vehicle was properly repaired.

We contacted several GMC dealers in Alabama in order to establish how these repairs and the resultant repair history would impact this vehicle’s Fair Market Value (FMV.) Dealers were provided with an evaluation of the vehicle’s condition both prior and subsequent to repairs.

Description of damage: Non-disabling collision damages to the Rear not including damage to structural components and no air bag deployment. Repair cost $1,903.84. LKQ (used) and/or aftermarket parts were not utilized in the repair/not factored in to the diminished value.

The average of six (6) deductions was 14.17%. This is the percentage of Diminished Value to be taken from the FMV at the time of loss.

We established that the above captioned vehicle had a Fair Market Value (Average Trade-In Value) of approximately $42,500.00 at the time of loss. The Diminished Value was $6,022.25.

Licensed and Certified Auto Appraiser

Auto Diminished Value Claims

There are licensing requirements for automobile appraisers. A properly licensed appraiser is automatically certified as an expert in this field. In order to obtain an adjusters or appraisers license, one must pass background checks and demonstrate both integrity and expertise in order to remain in good standing.

You will also find a number of associations that advertise themselves as certified automobile appraisal entities. These are actually just private companies that provide certifications for a fee. Most states require that an auto appraiser be licensed, successfully complete a course in auto appraisal, pass a state board exam and attend Continuing Education classes yearly for appraising automobiles. Should a state-licensed automobile appraiser be found guilty of a serious infraction, he or she could be subject to having their licenses suspended or revoked. No such penalties exist with the private companies that certify appraisers. Automobile appraisers can work on behalf of insurance companies as well as for individual vehicle owners. The types of appraisals they perform can range from damage estimating, to valuation appraisals and diminished value reports. When hiring an automobile appraiser, make certain that they have the proper credentials. A state-issued adjusters or appraisers license is the best confirmation that the automobile appraiser is qualified and that their reports will be accepted by insurers, magistrates and mediators.

Some of the entities that advertise that they are certified appraisers are listed below. When hiring an appraiser or adjuster who is certified by one of these companies, be sure to cross check with their home state insurance department to determine whether they are properly licensed.

  • The American Society of Certified Auto Appraisers
  • Bureau of Certified Auto Appraisers
  • Auto Appraisal Group
  • The Appraisal Foundation
  • Certified Automobile Appraisal LLC
  • I-Van, International Vehicle Appraisers Network
  • International Automotive Appraisers Association

HOW TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL DIMINISHED VALUE CLAIM

St. Lucie Automobile and Diminished Value Appraiser

There is a gold standard when it comes to automobile diminished value appraisers and it is known as AUTODIMINISHEDVALUE.COM, a service of The St. Lucie Appraisal Company available in all 50 states. If you ask any insurance adjuster or any of our competitors and you are liable to hear it from them as well. Insurance companies such as State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, USAA, Safeco, Progressive, Liberty Mutual and most of the rest have seen our diminished value appraisals. And we have looked at appraisals prepared by just about every independent appraiser – but most of them have ever seen one of ours. Why not? Our appraisals don’t get tossed out for demonstrating a “lack of proof” of diminished value. Theirs do, and when we are called upon for a second opinion, we get to see many of their sad excuses for appraisals.
WE DON’T USE FORMULAS, ALGORITHMS, AD COMPARISONS OR OTHER SHORT CUTS
SIX UNBIASED DEALER QUOTES IN EVERY APPRAISAL TO VALIDATE OUR RESEARCH
TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS ALWAYS FREE-OF-CHARGE

What goes without saying is that the insurance adjuster assigned to your case will make a ridiculously low initial settlement offer, regardless of how comprehensive an appraisal you’ve provided. It is when you start to push them, however – when the claim gets escalated to a supervisor or an unfair claim practices complaint is made to an insurance department that things get interesting. That’s when your appraisal gets sent upstairs to their defense attorneys for review. What, exactly are the lawyers looking for?

When an insurance company defense attorney looks over a diminished value appraisal that was prepared in less than ten minutes using a formula or what many appraisers have taken to calling “algorithms,” they see a document that will look as foreign to a magistrate or mediator as Sanskrit. Diminished value appraisals using automobile auction results aren’t valid as evidence because they represent a completely different market. The online ad comparison method is invalid as well. Two identical cars, listed for the same asking price, can be found, but one of which has an accident history. What is to prevent the seller of the previously-repaird car to ask an unrealistically-high price? You need absolute proof that your car or truck has lost value.

AUTODIMINISHEDVALUE.COM provides what insurance defense attorneys fear most – irrefutable evidence of diminished value, based on the unbiased opinions of six managers at new car dealerships – the people who, day in and day out, purchase and take these bad Carfax cars in trades. Recognizing a valid methodology that any judge can easily understand, insurance company lawyers attorneys are far more likely to advise their adjusters to settle.

Obtaining this detailed information is time consuming but its time well-spent because to be the gold standard in automobile diminished value appraisals, it’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to put in the time.

AUTOMOBILE CLAIMS QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Auto Diminished Value Claims

People also ask:

How do you fight a diminished value insurance claim?

Insurance companies excel at paying out as little as possible in claims. You need an expert that can keep fighting for you, even after the appraisal has been completed.

What can I do if an insurance company won’t pay for diminished value?

There are extreme measures such as litigation, but far easier paths are sometimes available. If there was no valid basis upon which an insurer denies your claim, complaints can be made to State Insurance Departments for Unfair Claim Practices. Escalating claims to supervisors at company home offices can also be effective measures one can take.

Are auto diminished value claims worth it?

It depends. You’ll need two things in order to be successful – a good appraisal and persistence. Follow your appraiser’s directions for best results. There are many formulas and algorithms out there that limit payouts for auto diminished value. In the real world, a minor to moderate repair will devalue a vehicle from 10% to 15%, even in this strong automotive market. Repairs that included either structural damage or air bag deployment can shave half off of your car’s value. Formulas and algorithms have built-in code that places ceilings on diminished value amounts. This is the real world where a car owner will need to deal with reality, not artificial intelligence.

Which is the best auto diminished value appraiser?

Choose an independent automobile appraisal company that does actual research. Proper research involves speaking to professionals in the business of buying and selling cars to determine diminished value – not simply plugging modifiers into algorithms. Artificial Intelligence isn’t useful when it is contradicted by facts.

Is there an advantage to using an independent auto appraiser?

Independent auto appraisers have been around the block. In addition to preparing appraisals, the good ones advise their clients right down the line for as long as it takes. Insurance claims are a rough road to travel alone but there are those who attempt to represent themselves, provide their own evidence and sometimes, they attain some level of success. It is time-consuming.

Which is the best antique auto appraiser?

An antique, classic and custom car appraiser should have experience with, not only the subject vehicles, but market trends that can greatly affect car values.

How does an auto appraiser value a car?

There are guidebooks, auto auction results and online ads that guide the independent appraiser in the search for legitimate comparable cars. Knowing how restorations and modifications affect prices is as important as knowing the cost of repairing body and mechanical deficiencies.

How do you fight a total loss claim?

It is unfortunate that most insurers simply reject legitimate evidence provided by car owners but they do. Their preferences are to do things “by the book” as in You hire an appraiser; we’ll hire an appraiser and they can address the dispute and attempt to reach a fair settlement amount.

Which is the best total loss appraiser?

It is easy to ask for numbers when interviewing independent appraisers to assist with your claim. Whether the total loss appraiser has been successful in obtaining higher settlements is the best evidence.

How do you know if your auto appraiser is good?

There’s one thing that can make sure that you have chosen a competent, reliable auto appraiser and that’s reading reviews – all you can find.

How much does it cost for an auto appraisal?

Industry wide,, an average fee ranges from $300-$500. Hire a state-licensed professional. Credentials are important and for that alone it is worth paying a few dollars more. There are many independent appraisers that advertise themselves as “certified appraisers”. Translation: They pay yearly dues for to private organizations for this designation.

Which independent auto appraiser is best for claims?

Many independent appraisal firms work for insurance companies as well as for car owners such as yourself. If you can, choose a company that works strictly with consumers for a better guarantee of where their loyalties lie.

Which independent auto appraisal company has the least complaints?

Reviews are important. Read them thoroughly to get a clear overall picture of what to expect.

Description Of Work: The St. Lucie Appraisal Co. provided me with an estimate of the diminished value of my brand new 2014 Subaru Outback (damaged on 12/05/2013 with the 90 day temporary registration sticker still on the back window), post repair to industry standards, after it was sideswiped along the entire left side while parked in front of my home.
Member Comments: I could not be more pleased by my experience with this business than I am. After submitting all the particulars needed for the appraisal, turnaround time was unbelievably fast—just about 24 hours. Communication with the firm was personal, responsive and just excellent. The report was well formatted. The price was more than reasonable—I would have paid more, considering what I got. The analytical approach and methodology used in preparing the report I believe to be sound as it is based on the actual combined and averaged opinions of 6 Subaru Used Car Managers from my region of the country (Southwest). These individuals are professionals, specialists in making these determinations, who do so on a daily basis, and do so successfully under actual real life market conditions. Therefore, this yields a report that is highly credible and has substantial evidential weight should the matter eventually need to be adjudicated.
The St. Lucie Appraisal Co. has my unqualified endorsement with regard to the area of diminished value auto claims, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone needing help in this area

A Manufactured Home or Mobile Home Appraiser may be called upon to place a value on a unit for financing, insurance, estate dissolution, Medicaid compliance, Section 8 housing, charitable donations, landlord-tenant disputes, bankruptcy, divorce and redevelopments at mobile home parks; also known as trailer parks. Older units, in particular, have experienced an upswing in desirability. improved construction techniques have increased lifespans of mobile and manufactured homes. The mobile and manufactured housing industry uses the NADA formula to calculate how much a mobile home is worth. However, many mobile homes have refurbishments that can increase the resale value of the home. Also, condition, location, amenities, whether lot is owned or rented, etc. are also key factors the appraiser must consider.

Diminished Value Methodology

St. Lucie Automobile and Diminished Value Appraiser

How is diminished Value calculated? The St. Lucie Appraisal Company’s service AUTODIMINISHEDVALUE.COM is just one of many independent appraisers that provide automobile diminished value reports for consumers. Each company has its own method of calculating the amount of value a car has lost after undergoing collision repairs. This article will examine each method and furnish explanations on each of them. It is our opinion, of course, that our methodology for calculation a vehicle’s diminished value after accident repairs is far superior to others being used. After reading the information that we have provided, you can make an informed decision about how to proceed with your automobile diminished value claim. How is diminished value calculated?

OUR METHODOLOGY

Our automobile diminished value reports are ultimately designed to be read and decided upon by a magistrate or mediator. In the past, our reports have proved conclusive in winning cases for our customers because they were based on real-world data.

There are six commonly-used methods by which diminished value is calculated.

1) A letter from a dealership declaring that the vehicle has lost value as a result of undergoing collision repairs. A typical insurance company response: “A dealership is not a disinterested third party and has a financial interest in the acquisition price of a trade in vehicle. Their business model is to buy low and sell high. An offer of trade is simply the starting point of a negotiation and does not, in and of itself, establish any specific loss in value. It is our position that the documentation presented by you does not provide any underlying market data in support of the post-accident value of your vehicle.” This approach generally costs you nothing. em>

2) Figures made up out of thin air, usually buttressed by an appraiser’s assertion that they are based on his or her years of experience in the field either buying, selling or rebuilding cars. The cost for this type of report should be negligible.

3) By using formulas or algorithms such as Rule 17-C which assigns modifiers (points) to things such as whether frame/unibody damage or air bag deployment occurred or whether adjacent panels needed to be painted. These types of reports are subjective, simplistic and abstract. In our experience, judges who have attempted to decipher this type of appraisal understood them even less after having them explained by insurance company attorneys than when they first read them. There is a wide range of fees being charged by independent appraisers, from around $250.00 to more than $800.00. The upper end of the scale usually includes the appraiser’s physical inspection of the vehicle. In cases of inherent diminished value, where a car is worth less simply because it now has a bad Carfax, an inspection of the repaired car serves no purpose.

4) The use of automobile auction results. The data will show a number of similar vehicles that were sold at auction, some that were never damaged and others with bad Carfaxes. You can see that the bad Carfax vehicles sold for less but the auction printouts don’t show the mileage, options, colors, etc. of each vehicle nor do they list the extent of the damages that were repaired. Plus, this is not the market you are in.

5) Improper use of Carfax.com retail ads. An appraisal showing random screen shots of similar cars for sale, some of which were previously repaired, to make comparisons. Typically, very little information about the cars such as mileage, condition, how much was paid for the car and, most importantly, a description of the repairs that were done is provided. This method also invites “cherry-picking” of higher and lower-priced cars. Most importantly, asking prices aren’t a true measuring stick because nothing prevents dealers for asking unreasonably high prices for previously repaired vehicles.

6) A diminished value report that is prepared by The St. Lucie Appraisal Company takes into consideration all of the specifics of your car as well as the exact amount and nature of the damages that were repaired. It is as comprehensive a diminished value report as you can find. Our report contains our own data-based opinion. Then we confirm our findings by querying six sales managers at recognized dealerships in your area. Each dealership, their contact information and the name of the manager is all contained within our appraisal. The last paragraph of our report addresses insurance company concerns regarding the use of dealer quotes. It reads: “All of the dealers queried were informed that the subject vehicle was not available for purchase or trade, therefore none of the dealers queried had any vested interest in the subject vehicle.” This method represents unbiased, irrefutable proof of the occurrence and amount of diminished value. Our fee for a diminished value appraisal is $275.00 for most cars. Diminished value appraisals for exotics such as Ferrari, Tesla and Bentleys cost $350.00. Unless there is a problem, we rarely hear back from our customers – a sign that they are receiving fair settlements from insurers.

Car owners count on their service providers to follow up promptly when questions or other issues arise. It is difficult to know which independent appraisers can be relied upon as expert witnesses or simply for advice as the claim progresses. Our concern is for those who have placed their trust in us – our customers. While we feel that our methodology is the best in the business, our customer service is even better.

Vehicle Valuation Report for Title, Registration – Auto, Truck, RV, Motorcycle and Heavy Equipment

Auto Diminished Value Claims

The St. Lucie Appraisal Company prepares valuation and diminished value appraisals for all types of cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles and heavy equipment in all 50 states. In each county of every state, motor vehicles being titled and registered for tags and license plates are assessed a tax based on the vehicle’s fair market value. If your car was ever involved in a collision, especially one involving severe damage that included structural (frame) damage or air bag deployment, you are paying up to double the amount you pay for motor vehicle title and registration taxes. For example, if you own a late-model Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, INFINITI, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rolls-Royce or Tesla which the state values at $50,000, your motor vehicle tax is approximately $3,500.00. However, the same car showing a bad Carfax, Autocheck or other repair history report may have an actual value of up to 50% less. The resultant tax saving would be $1,750.00. If your motor vehicle is worth more, your savings increase exponentially. RVs such as Prevost, Newmar or Featherlite and heavy trucks such as Mack, Kenworth, Peterbilt or Volvo that have been repaired after collisions aren’t worth nearly as much as those that were never wrecked. The motor vehicle tax saving on a half-million-dollar vehicle could be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Our valuation reports are also sought after for total loss disputes, financing, insurance underwriting, estate dissolution, divorce, bankruptcy and charitable donations.
